Knockturn Alley is a dark and seedy alleyway in London, just off Diagon Alley, to which Muggles have no access, and which is frequented largely by Dark Wizards. Many of the shops in Knockturn Alley are devoted to the Dark Arts; the largest is Borgin & Burkes, which sells sinister and dangerous objects.

To enter the ministry via the Visitors Entrance, you must dial the number 6-2-4-4-2 into a specific public telephone and state your name and reason for entering. Passes are then issued (apparently through a magical system) and the telephone box then descends through the ground into the ministry's lobby.

St. Mungo's Hospital for Magical Maladies and Injuries is a Wizarding hospital. Medics at the hospital are not called doctors, but are known as Healers or Mediwizards and wear lime-green robes. Founded by famous wizard Healer Mungo Bonham, St. Mungo's is located in London. To enter the premises, one has to step through the window of what appears to be a derelict department store called Purge and Dowse Ltd. The exteriors of the hospital are red-bricked and dirty, which is the complete opposite of the interior. Inside, everything is very neat and looks exactly as a hospital should. There are six floors.

The wizard prison of Azkaban is located in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean. This houses some of the worst criminals of wizard & witch kind. The cells are small, and it is a dreadful place to be. Dementors used to guard this place but they have left their Azkaban to join Voldemort and his death eaters,

Homes of the Magical Community. Homes can either be in a Magical Community (like Hogsmeade or Godric's Hollow) or in a Muggle Community (like Little Whinging).

The Great Hall is entered by double doors to the right of the Entrance Hall. The Great Hall is a vast chamber that contains four long tables for each of the four Houses. Closest to the doors is the Slytherin table, followed by Ravenclaw, then Hufflepuff, and finally the Gryffindor table next to the far wall. On a raised platform at the front of the room is the High Table where the staff dine. The ceiling is enchanted so that it mirrors the sky as it currently appears outside. There are also high mullioned windows around the room that show the grounds outside.

There are numerous lessons are described, instructing the students in various branches of magic. There are twelve named teachers (each referred to as Professor), each specialising in a single subject. There are seven required classes. At the end of their second year, students are required to add at least two optional subjects to their syllabus for the start of the third year.

The hospital wing contains many beds with white sheets, optional privacy screens, and bedpans. It also contains the office of Poppy Pomfrey, the nurse. The Clock Tower is located along the corridor outside the hospital. It chimes the hours with a big bell.

The trophy room is where awards, cups, plates, shields, statues, and medals are kept in a crystal glass display case. This room also contains a list of Head Boys and Head Girls. The trophy room is adjacent to an armour gallery. Tom Riddle's Award for Services to the School is among the awards here. Harry Potter and Ron Weasley both won Special Awards for Service to the School; their awards will be on display here as well. Peeves especially enjoys bouncing around the trophy room.

The library contains tens of thousands of books on thousands of shelves. The different sections include an Invisibility Section, a section on dragons, and the Restricted Section at the very back, barred by a rope. Students need a signed note of permission from a teacher to peruse the Restricted Section, as it holds books about powerful Dark subject matter that is never taught at Hogwarts, and is only used by older students studying advanced Defence Against the Dark Arts. Books in the Hogwarts library may be put on hold and the student's name added to a waiting list. Chocolate and presumably all other food and drinks are forbidden in the library.

The Owlery is at the top of the West Tower. The Owlery is a circular stone room that holds hundreds and hundreds of different kinds of owls, including both the school owls and owls that students have brought as pets, all nestled on perches that rise right to the top of the tower. None of the windows in the Owlery have glass and so it is rather cold and drafty. The floor is covered in straw, droppings, and the "regurgitated skeletons of mice and voles".

Astronomy classes occur here, since this is the tallest tower and therefore has the best view of the night sky. The Astronomy Tower faces west and is located above the main entrance of Hogwarts.

To enter the North Tower, it is necessary to climb a ladder on the seventh floor through a trapdoor in the ceiling. This classroom is at the base of the North Tower and is a round room with walls lined with shelves (they hold teacups, crystal balls, and decks of cards), small round tables, armchairs, and pouffes. The classroom also has an oppressive fire with a copper kettle that gives off heavy fumes.

The expansive lawns that spread over the grounds of Hogwarts. They are spotted with trees and shrubs as well as full of empty spaces that allow for all sorts of gatherings.

The lake is located on the south side of the castle, which stands on a cliff overlooking the water. It is about half a mile in diameter and the Hogwarts plumbing network drains into it. A number of magical creatures inhabit the lake, including a giant squid, often seen near the surface, a colony of merpeople inhabiting the bottom, and a population of grindylows.

The dark, creepy woods that border the lake and castle. They are full of unknown creatures and monsters who like to prey on students. It is names Forbidden for a reason...

A quaint little cottage set along the Forbidden Forest. It is the home of the Groundskeeper and Keeper of the Keys at Hogwarts, the half-giant Hagrid. He's always up for a visit by some friendly students who will sample their food.

A more seedy pub frequented by shady characters.

The hanging sign on the front of the pub has a severed boar's head, leaking blood onto the white cloth around it. The pub itself is filthy, with the floor covered with layers of dirt, and the windows smeared with so much grime that little light gets through. The main floor is a single room, but there are additional rooms on the upper floors. The bartender is Aberforth, the brother of Hogwarts Headmaster Albus Dumbledore.
